Another Female Sex Crazy Teacher

By Jeff Long
Tribune staff reporter

A McHenry High School teacher is scheduled to appear in court Thursday on charges that she had oral sex with a 17-year-old male student and gave him and two other students alcohol, officials said Monday.

Laura Sieradzki, 32, of Palatine, has been charged with two sex-related counts and two counts of piercing the bodies of minors during separate incidents in March.

"We entrust our children to teachers," said McHenry County State's Atty. Lou Bianchi. "It makes it more egregious to me when you see these incidents involving teachers."

On March 15, Sieradzki pierced the nipples of two female students, whose ages were not available, prosecutors said. She is accused of performing oral sex on the male student in a vehicle near Wonder Lake on March 29, according to Nichole Owens, chief of the criminal division of the McHenry County state's attorney's office.

Sieradzki was charged with supplying the three students with alcohol on those days, according to authorities.

Officials say the incidents involved students who attend the West Campus of McHenry High School, where Sieradzki taught for two years until she was placed on paid leave Thursday.

If she is convicted, Sieradzki faces between 4 and 15 years in prison for the most serious charge, criminal sexual assault, which stems from her being in a position of authority as a teacher.

Sieradzki could not be reached for comment on Monday. She posted $20,000 bail on Saturday, the day after she was booked into the McHenry County Jail following the investigation by the sheriff's office.

She earns a $41,000 salary as a special education teacher, said Phil Hintz, superintendent of McHenry Community High School District 156.

Owens did not know whether the students involved were in Sieradzki's class and Hintz would not say. This is Sieradzki's second year as a teacher in the district, Hintz said.

"She's been removed from the classroom, pending the results of the investigation, the police and our own," Hintz said. School officials notified police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services when they heard of the alleged incidents, Hintz said.

But he would not say when officials first heard about them or what other actions were taken between what reportedly happened in March and the teacher's arrest last week.

Counseling is available to students and families who have been affected by the incidents, he said.

"We're required by law to do a criminal background check," Hintz said. Asked if anything turned up in Sieradzki's background, he said, "Obviously not."

Man Jailed Over Oral Sex Proposition

A WOMAN out for an early morning power walk across Brisbane's Story Bridge was groped on the bottom by a drunk stranger who then invited her to give him oral sex.

Jason Troy Spires, 32, was yesterday jailed for the November 2005 incident, which occurred as he walked away from the city after an all-night work Christmas party.

He has two previous convictions for masturbating in public.

Brisbane District Court was told the woman was walking across the bridge at Kangaroo Point shortly after 6am (AEDT) when Spires came across her, grabbed her on the bottom and made a crude suggestion about oral sex.

Judge Debbie Richards imposed six months jail for the sexual assault.

Sydney Gang Rapist Convicted Again

Sydney, AU -- Notorious gang rapist Bilal Skaf has been convicted for a second time over a Sydney pack rape that sparked legal controversy and reform. The 12-person jury in the NSW Supreme Court retrial took two days to reach guilty verdicts for Skaf and his associate, who can be referred to only as AA, over the August 2000 attack on a 16-year-old girl in a Greenacre park.

Skaf now 24, was convicted in 2002 on two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent in company, while AA, now 22, was found guilty of being and accessory before the fact. They were among up to 14 men allegedly involved in the attack.

Skaf made NSW legal history when he was sentenced to a record 55 years in jail for leading a string of vicious gang rapes in Sydney's southwest in 2000. But the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal in 2004 quashed Skaf and AA's convictions over the Greenacre park attack and ordered a retrial after it was revealed that during the trial, two jurors conducted their own investigations at the scene.

Skaf remained behind bars while awaiting retrial, with his sentence for other sex offences having been reduced to a maximum of 28 years on appeal. AA's overturned conviction and subsequent appeal resulted in his jail term for the same series of attacks, being reduced from 32 to 19 years.

The actions of the jurors in their original trial prompted the NSW Government to make it illegal for any juror to conduct private investigations outside court. It also led to a law allowing sexual assault victims to testify via transcript or video.

No Sexual Harassment In Friends TV Show

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The California Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that writers have the right to talk dirty and make lewd comments while creating a television situation comedy without having to worry about being sued.

The court said the writers of the hit TV series "Friends" did not create a hostile work environment or sexually harass a woman who worked for them by transcribing their raucous work sessions creating programs.

The case was closely watched in Hollywood, where several leading writers and civil liberties lawyers said the suit threatened to undermine freedom of speech and the creative process.

A spokesman for Warner Bros. Television, named as a defendant in the suit, hailed the ruling, saying: "Now we can continue doing what we do best, writing and producing hit television shows with the knowledge that our speech is protected."

The unanimous ruling by the state's high court upheld a lower-court decision throwing out the sexual harassment claim brought by former "Friends' transcriber Amaani Lyle against the writers and producers of the NBC sitcom.

She said was fired after complaining about being subjected to racial and sexual slurs. The show's writers said Lyle lost her job because she was a slow typist who often missed the jokes she was supposed to transcribe.

The Supreme Court said because "Friends" was an "adult-oriented comedy show featuring sexual themes," Lyle should have expected coarse language from writers producing jokes and scripts.

The decision, written by Justice Marvin Baxter, said "sexual antics and sexual discussions" by the show's writers were not aimed at Lyle or other female employees, and that women writers also discussed sexual experiences for material for the show.

"There is no dispute 'Friends' was a situation comedy that featured young sexually active adults and sexual humor geared primarily toward adults," Baxtor wrote.

"Aired episodes of the show often used sexual and anatomical language, innuendo, wordplay and physical gestures to create humor concerning sex, including oral sex, anal sex, heterosexual sex, gay sex," and related topics, he wrote.

While the Fair Employment and Housing Act prohibits conduct that creates a hostile workplace, it does not outlaw "sexually coarse and vulgar language that merely offends," Baxter wrote.

Lyle's lawsuit raised questions of how far TV comedy writers could go in pushing the boundaries of taste in private joke-writing sessions, with supporters of writers and producers arguing the suit infringed on their freedom of speech.

The court, with one dissenting voice, said it did not need to address free speech issues because the case could be decided by considering whether the Fair Employment Act was violated.

"Friends," NBC's top-rated show for several years, ended its 10-season-run in May 2004.

Four Nabbed In Internet Chat Sex Sting

The Suffolk Police computer crimes unit has charged four Long Island men with using Internet chat rooms to seek a sexual relationship with someone they thought was a 13-year-old girl, but who in fact was a detective, authorities said.

"This sends a message to these predators and would-be predators that our police department will be monitoring you," Suffolk Executive Steve Levy said Friday at police headquarters in Yaphank.

The men, who were arrested Thursday, used and other chat rooms to seek underaged girls, Det. Sgt. John Cowie, chief of the Suffolk computer crimes section, said. All four were taken into custody when they arranged to have sex with the fictitious girl and showed up at a public spot on the South Shore of Suffolk County, he said. Thomas J. Fitzpatrick, 27, of One Georgia Rd. in Amity Harbor, was charged with attempted rape and attempted dissemination of indecent materials to a minor. He is a temporary office worker assigned to Newsday. "Thomas Fitzpatrick is not an employee of Newsday. He is employed by Kelly Services and was assigned by them to do temporary work at Newsday for the past five months," said Newsday spokeswoman Dixie Comeau. "Newsday has directed Kelly Services not to assign Mr. Fitzpatrick to us, pending the outcome of the case."

Fitzpatrick used a telephone at Newsday's transportation night operations office to arrange the meeting to have sex, the police said.

A second suspect, David M. Murillo, 20, of 114 Glenway Lane in Syosset, a student at Dowling College, has a criminal record, police said. Murillo pleaded guilty to harassment after a 6-year-old girl complained about his conduct while he was a counselor at the Thomas School of Horsemanship in Melville last summer, the police said. Murillo's mother, Roni Murillo, declined to comment on the new charge.

James J. Marciano, 39, of 2739 Remsen St. in Baldwin was charged with attempted criminal sex act. Michael A. Anello, 25, of 54 Garden Court in Ronkonkoma, was charged with attempted rape. Each was also charged with attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor. All four men were arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.

None of the suspects could be reached for comment.

Two Sex Offenders Slain While Suspect Does Suicide

A quiet Cape Breton dishwasher suspected of killing two Maine sex offenders had visited an online registry that listed their names and addresses, a U.S. official said Monday.

Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said the two victims were among 34 names that Stephen Marshall, 20, of North Sydney, N.S., had looked up on the state website.

"The events of the weekend will obviously be reviewed, but there are no plans to change the site at this point," McCausland said.

Investigators searching for a link between Marshall and the murdered Americans discovered that the young Canadian had entered his name on the sex offender registry in order to get more information, including the street addresses of the victims.

Despite the possible break in the case, police still have more questions than answers about what might connect Marshall to the murdered men. Marshall's father, Ralph Marshall, told reporters Monday that his son didn't appear troubled and never said he had been sexually abused.

"Right now, everything seems to be about speculation," he said.

Most of the answers may have died with Marshall, who shot himself in the head when cornered by police on a bus outside Boston on Sunday. A laptop computer was found with his body.

The bodies of the victims in the puzzling double-murder-suicide were found in their homes about 40 kilometres apart in towns in Maine.

Marshall, of North Sydney, N.S., was named as "a person of interest" in the deaths of Joseph Gray, 57, of Milo, Me., and William Elliott, 24, of Corinth, Me.

The names and addresses of the victims were on the online registry until state authorities suspended access to the site after the killings.

Gray's name was posted on the state registry because he had moved to Maine after he was convicted in Massachusetts of sexually assaulting a child under 14. Elliott's conviction was for having sex with a girl under the legal age. Marshall was last seen in Cape Breton on Thursday.

Police in Maine said a witness saw him leave the second shooting scene in Corinth in a white pickup Sunday morning, about five hours after the first shooting in Milo was reported.

The truck, which belonged to Marshall's father, was later found abandoned near an arena in Bangor, Me. After a 12-hour manhunt that stretched through three states, police pulled over a bus from Bangor as it approached Boston at 7:25 p.m. EDT.

As officers climbed aboard, Marshall was 13 rows behind the driver in a window seat. He pulled out a .45-calibre handgun and shot himself in the head, said David Procopio, spokesman for the Suffolk County district attorney.

When paramedics arrived, they found a second handgun in Marshall's possession. Marshall died at 11:24 p.m. at Boston Medical Center.

Sex Expert Says Cannibal Didn't Want To Kill

By John O'Donnell

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - A sex expert at the retrial of a German cannibal jailed for killing and consuming a man said on Tuesday the defendant had not been motivated by a desire to kill but by his victim's wish to be eaten.

Armin Meiwes, who was jailed two years ago for killing a computer engineer who had begged to be eaten, is standing trial for the second time after Germany's top criminal court ruled that his eight-year sentence for manslaughter was too lenient.

Prosecutors, hoping to secure a murder conviction, need to show that Meiwes killed his victim to fulfil his own sexual desire or that he planned to distribute for profit part of the videotape he made of the crime.

Meiwes' defence hinges on his victim's request to be eaten and that he was simply fulfilling this desire, a view backed up by a sex psychologist who addressed the court in Frankfurt.

"He (Meiwes) was convinced that he wanted it and that he would live on within him," Klaus Beier told the court. "His motivation was not to kill."

Beier described Meiwes as an affable, self-confident and positive man, who apart from his crime would have done little to attract attention.

He told the court how Meiwes had searched the Internet for a suitable partner, trawling through advertisements including one from a 26-year-old who was looking for "a likeable, older gentleman to read me my death sentence".

His search had been fruitless, however, until he met Bernd-Juergen Brandes, who had advertised for someone to "obliterate his life and leave no trace".

Of the handful of men he met, Meiwes had said, only Brandes had been a truly willing victim.

Australian Government Chases Porn PC Ban

Canberra, AU -- Pressure is mounting on the Federal Government to force Australian internet service providers to outlaw all pornographic websites. Federal Labor joined calls from fledgling political party Family First for a crack down on internet content into Australian homes.

Family First senator Steve Fielding yesterday revealed he had been in negotiations for months with Prime Minister John Howard over measures to block internet porn. However, Senator Fielding said he was dismayed at the time it was taking to convince the Government to do something about websites many people deplored.

"If the Government was serious about protecting children, they would move on this issue," he said. Senator Fielding said a Government report last year had established that mandatory filtering of the internet would cost $45 million to set up and $33 million to run. Under Family First's plan, internet porn would be blocked by Australia's most commonly used internet service providers. This would also effectively block smaller service providers that buy their access through major providers, such as Telstra, on a wholesale basis.

The push for crack down on internet pornography comes after previous attempts appear to have failed. In 2002, the Australian Broad casting Authority issued an edict t for internet service providers to offer consumers cost-price software filters. However, many filters are ineffective, remain expensive and most households have not adopted the technology.

Opposition Leader Kim Beazly yesterday said poor computer literacy meant almost two thirds of parents didn't have internet filter on their PCs. "Government can and should do more to stop extreme internet content from getting into Australian homes and being accessed by kids," he said. Under Labour plan, all internet service providers would be forced to offer a"clean feed" service to households, schools and other public internet points accessible by children.

He said adults who still wanted to view legal porn content could opt out of the system. However, Communications Minister Helen Coonan said PC based filters remained the best way to police downloads on home computers. She said forcing service providers to filter porn would slow the internet for all users.

Tom Cruise Talks About Sex

Tom Cruise apparently enjoys a “spectacular” sex life with his fiancĂ©e Katie Holmes, who is currently pregnant with his child.

The superstar revealed his sex secrets in an interview with GQ magazine (May issue).

He said: “Sex is about the connection. Great sex is a by-product, for me, of a great relationship, where you have communication and it's an extension of that. Where it's just free. And that's how it should be. It's spectacular. If you're not in good communication with your partner, it sucks. (Meaningless sex outside of a relationship) is really horrible and pathetic and lonely.”

Teacher Plot To Kill Her Husband Had Sex With 4 Students

COFFEEVILLE, Alabama. -- An English teacher at a small Alabama high school has been charged with having sex with at least four students and allegedly involving one in a plot to kill her husband. Officials released few details but said the husband, a gym teacher who taught at the same school last year, was unharmed.

School officials were first tipped off to concerns about the teacher in 2004 by an unsigned letter accusing Sharon Linton Rutherford of sleeping with students, Clarke County Schools Superintendent Gerald Stephens said. Stephens said the school investigated and informed police, but they had little to go on.

Then, on April 5, one of the students told Coffeeville High School Principal Janice Richardson that he had had sex with the 30-year-old teacher, according to Stephens and detectives.

Authorities declined to comment on the evidence but arrested Rutherford on Tuesday and charged her with solicitation of murder, rape, sexual abuse and two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes. She was ordered held on $55,000 bond.

Clarke County Sheriff's detective Ron Baggette said two of the victims were under 16 and he was investigating to determine if more students might have been involved. He said some of the alleged encounters were on school grounds.

"I wouldn't have charged her if I didn't have enough evidence to show it is true," Baggette told the Mobile Register for its Friday editions.

Coffeeville High School, about 75 miles north of Mobile in southwest Alabama, has about 110 student.

Rutherford was put on administrative leave after she was charged. Her husband, James Rutherford, who teaches in another town, did not return calls seeking comment.

Coffeeville Mayor Faye Cotten described Sharon Rutherford as a shy woman and told the Register that she and others in the community were surprised by her arrest.

"We've all been talking about it, and what we can't figure out is, if she really did this, why she would risk everything, just everything?" Cotten told.

Ex-Teacher Rearrested in Teen Sex Case

McMINNVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A former elementary school teacher who spent six months in jail for having sex with a 13-year-old student was arrested again, this time for violating probation by apparently communicating with the victim.

Pamela Rogers, 28, was arrested Tuesday and released on $10,000 bond. A judge Wednesday ordered her to appear at a July 12 hearing.

Last August, Rogers reached a plea deal to serve nine months on an eight-year sentence, allowing her to avoid a trial on 28 charges of sexual battery and statutory rape. She was released from jail in February for good behavior.

Under terms of the plea deal, she was, among other things, ordered not to contact the victim or his family and not to use the Internet.

Authorities said she violated probation by establishing a Web site through the online social networking hub The site features a blog that included what authorities said was communication between Rogers and the victim's 17-year-old sister.

Rogers is also accused of issuing a cryptic message to the victim through the Web site by addressing his basketball jersey number, saying he was her hero and that she would not fall in love again for three years.

The Web site also features several pictures of Rogers in a bikini.

District Attorney General Dale Potter said he will seek to have Rogers return to prison to serve the remaining seven years of the original prison term.

``This came in such a short amount of time after she was released on probation and in our opinion these were intentional violations of the terms of her release,'' Potter said.

Rogers' attorney, Peter Strianse of Nashville, told WSMV-TV he was ``very concerned'' that Rogers' plea agreement was in jeopardy.

Nice'n'Naughty And Cricket

LONDON,UK -- An English cricket club has had to pull out from a sponsorship deal with a sex shop after it was threatened with expulsion by its local league. Southport Trinity Cricket Club, in Lancashire, north-west England, had already produced shirts for its players displaying the logo of Nice’n’Naughty – a chain of adult shops selling pornographic videos and sex toys – in time for the start of their season this Saturday.

However, the amateur team was forced to ditch the shirts and refund Nice’n’Naughty’s sponsorship money after being threatened with expulsion from the Liverpool and District Competition of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Premier League. Southport chairman Colin Maxwell said: “Obviously, we knew that Nice’n’Naughty is not to everybody’s taste, but we didn’t realise it would cause this much of a problem. “It is a legitimate high street company. The Southport branch is right opposite the train station. “We are living in 2006, it’s not like the old days when these shops were seedy, back street affairs.” Maxwell added the Liverpool and District Cricket authorities originally approved the deal but later issued an ultimatum to the club - lose the shirts, or lose points. “They originally approved the deal but I think they came under pressure from the ECB, and they have to be seen to act accordingly,” Maxwell explained. Boys And Blokes In A Class Of Their Own

By Jane Fynes Clinton

OK, girls, we can back off now. This wee, The Courier Mail revealed that all-girls school were the stand outs in the academic rankings of the state's school. Sisters are loudly and proudly doing it for themselves and leaving boys in their scholarly dust. Good on them. Bravo. Well done.

But while we bask in the glow of yet more signs that women are thriving, and celebrate more wins for womankind, maybe we should stop for a thick and wonder whether it has all gone a bit far. What about our boys? Shouldn't we be deeply troubled about them and their overall lackluster academic performance?

In her book The War Against Boys, American author Christina Hoff Soimmers raised the alarm five years ago that the correction of what was thought to be a very real imbalance against girls had gone too far. Girls were thriving in school, in opportunities and in life, and boys were being bent out of shape and out of the picture. Sommers even had the audacity to question whether there was ever a real girl crisis in the first place.

I think the information revealed on Monday is symptomatic of broader problem - one that women have created in their relentless agitation to make everything even, equal, better and fair. As a result, in many areas men and boys are now viewed as second-class. We women have done so well and reaped so much that our boys and men are being rendered a shell of their former testosterone-fuelled, hunter and gatherer selves.

We've left them with nowhere to go. Why is it unacceptable when a boy wrestles, but acceptable when a girl fits in the dainty, feminine model? How did we get to the point where a girl is allowed to be sensitive and girly as well as practical and smart, but boys' masculine tendencies are considered socially problematic and any sign of sookiness is also beyond the pale?

The picture for blokes isn't pretty, more men die on he roads, more men commit suicide, proportionally more men get prostate cancer than women get breast cancer, their death rates in every disease category are higher, and men occupy nice out of 10 cells in our prisons. Boys' literacy and numeracy rates are abysmal, they are shown to have lower selfesteem and higher incidence of behavior problems than girls.

The Federal Government's revival of its ad campaign reminds the public that "To Violence Against Women, Australia Says NO". And we should be reminded that to violence against men, Australia also shakes its head. Women's violence is on the rise - it may be less often physical, but there is more than a handful of women with razor sharp tongues and honed needling skills.

The World Economic Forum's Gender Gap Report, which rated 58 nations in 2004, revealed that things are pretty balanced in Australia in terms of economic opportunity and participation, political opportunity, educational attainment and health and wellbeing. It states that Australia has the ninth smallest gender gap of the nations rated. On the whole, women are happier with their lives and feel they have made more progress than men.

Maybe it's time we started remembering the men need love and respect too. The pendulum of discrimination has swung in woman's favor in many areas and men have been told too long to...Well, not to be men.

I am a man fan. My husband and son are guys' guys and I would not have it any other way. What is wrong with loving men because they are masculine, capable and strong? Of course, my guys can cook, a meal, iron a shirt and they certainly have emotion and compassion. These are parts of the whole and masculinity is no less or more of it.

In advertising, we are too often presented with the hopeless fella; the lovable but indecisive blocke who can't commit and sneaks off to be with his mates: "Tee hee, chortle. Isn't his hopelessness cute." Enough, I say. These are not the ideal men of our era. This is not what we women should be pleased about creating. We got what were were after, girls: the gender imbalance in almost every realm has been more than righted. Men have been beaten.

In the search to find another cause to fight for, it would do us well to remember those attributes that women as a group seem to have lost touch with: compassion, a sense of fair play and love four our men.

Serial Pedophile Faces Indefinite Jail Sentence

Brisbane, AU -- Notorious pedophile Mark Anthony Foy faced being returned to an indefinite jail sentence, a court was told last week. Lawyers for the State Government went to the Supreme Court after a Department of Corrections officer made a complaint Foy had breached a supervision order allowing him to remain in the community.

Justice Anthe Philippides ordered Foy to be examined by two psychiatrists before a full hearing in June. She also ordered detail of the allegations against Foy be placed in a sealed envelope to be opened only at the order of a judge.

Lawyer David Shepher, for Foy, had indicated the contents of the complain would be disputed. In January last year, the then attorney-general Rod Welford failed in an application to have Foy detained in jail indefinitely under new Queensland laws. However, Foy, who had a history of molesting children in public places, was ordered to be governed for the next 10 years by 24 supervisory conditions. He was barred from public places containing playgrounds, and also from any public park, or going near schools.

Foy, 44, was first convicted of indecent exposure in 1984 and had more than 20 convictions for child sex offences when he was convicted in 1997 of 10 offences against boys and girls. He was jailed for two years and released in January 1999. In November of that year he molested two girls, 10 and 11, in a park. Six days later he molested seven boys and girls aged six to 12 in a park.

Sex Fiend Tag Plan

By Paula Doneman

Sex offenders may soon be tracked by electronic bracelets. The new tracking technology being considered by the State Government would enable authorities to know when offenders approach designated no-go areas involving children. Under the plan, electronic bracelets would be fitted to sex offenders who have been released from jail but are still considered a risk to children.

The bracelets, which cannot be removed, are linked to an interactive global positioning system which triggers alarms when offenders approach prohibited areas. Police Minister Judy Spence will travel to New Zealand on Wednesday for a "fact finding" mission to look at the tracking technology used by prison authorities there. She said the New Zealand system might record where and offender has been, but only if they had been at a prohibited place and those co-ordinates were programmed on the system.

Under new laws to be introduced later this year, police will be able to apply to the courts for child sex offender prohibition orders to restrict where a pedophile can live, and even who they can associate with. This could mean a pedophile is prevented from going within 200m of parks or movie theatres where children congregate, entering shopping centers when school children could be there, or even associating with anyone aged under 16.

Ms. Spence said the courts would decide how long offenders would be electronically monitored and parolees could be included in the program. She declined to comment on whether a private company or government agency would be responsible for the monitoring of offenders.

State Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg welcomed the electronic tagging, but said the Government needed to consider the core problem of criminals not being properly rehabilitated before release. Mr Springborg said 90% of serious sex offenders were being released form Queensland jails without undertaking the sex offender treatment program.

Teenage Lovers Plotted to Kill Parents

Brisbane, AU -- A Teenage girl recruited her boyfriend to kill her parents in their Brisbane home so the young couple could continue their romance, a court was told last week. Joshua Andrew Hockey, 18, of Bellbowrie, was refused bail when he appeared in the Brisbane Magistrate's Court charged with conspiring to murder and attempted murder of his girlfriend's parents at their Newmarket home on Saturday.

The girl, 15, was charged with the same offences and was bailed by the Brisbane Children's Court. She must live with her aunt and uncle and have no contact with Hockey until her next court appearance next month. Prosecutor Senior Sergeant Mark Gorton opposed the Hockey's release, saying the allegations were "nothing short of bizarre".

He alleged the young couple met on the Internet, before the girl hatched a plan to get Hockey to murder her parents. The 18-year-old then attacked his girlfriend's father in his own bathroom at the weekend, holding a knife to his throat and struggling with him but he only managed to stab himself in the leg, the court was told. The boy was full of bravado in his police interview, suggesting he was a hitman who had killed before.

"This plot was not on the spur of the moment - it was hatched over days", said Senior Sergeant Gorton. Defense lawyer John Jacob said his client had no previous convictions and had been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder at a young age. Mr. Jacob said it was not an uncommon fantasy for young people to be rid of their parents, and claimed the girl wanted to be rid of hers so she could be free to see Hockey.

He claimed the girl's parents had put obstacles in young couple's way and that when Hockey saw injuries on his girlfriend, he believed they were caused by her parents.

Britney Spears Sculpture Of Birth

(AP) A life-size sculpture of a naked Britney Spears kneeling on a bearskin rug as she gives birth will be on display next month at Brooklyn's Capla Kesting Fine Art gallery.

The sculpture is to appear next to a display case filled with anti-abortion materials. It was created by Daniel Edwards, who said he never spoke to the 24-year-old pop star or met her, and fashioned her face and figure from photographs.

"I admire her. This is an idealized figure," Edwards said Tuesday in a phone interview from his home, which is near his studio in Moosup, Conn.

"Everyone is coming at me with anger and venom, but I depicted her as she has depicted herself _ seductively. Suddenly, she's a mom."

Spears, who is married to her former backup dancer Kevin Federline, gave birth to their son, Sean Preston, last year. He is the couple's first child.

The singer's publicist, Leslie Sloane Zelnik, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

When some bloggers heard about the exhibit _ "Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston" _ the gallery said it received about 3,000 e-mails from around the world in just a week, split between anti-abortion and abortion rights opinions.

"We also got calls from Tokyo, England, France. Some people are upset that Britney is being used for this subject matter," said gallery co-owner David Kesting. "Others who are pro-life thought this was degrading to their movement. And some pro-choice people were upset that this is a pro-life monument."

The gallery, located in Brooklyn's artsy Williamsburg neighborhood, said it would hire extra security guards for the free exhibit, which will open April 7 and run for two weeks.

Edwards, whose sculpture of Ted Williams' decapitated head _ which was frozen in the hope that medical science could one day revive the baseball great _ stirred up an artistic storm, said the sculpture of Spears was a "new take on pro-life."

"Pro-lifers normally promote bloody images of abortion. This is the image of birth," he said.

When Edwards was asked why he creates art that generates publicity by selecting subjects hyped in the media, he said: "You're bombarded with these stories. And there's a thread that winds back to the art. That's not a bad thing. People are interested in these topics, and it works for art as well."

Asked whether he's anti-abortion, Edwards said, "You nailed me. I'm not saying that I am. I wouldn't march with either pro-life or pro-choice advocates. This is not meant to be political."

US Official Held In Sting On Child Sex

Orlando, FL -- A US Department of Homeland Security official has been arrested after he had, among other things, sexually explicit conversations with a person whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.

Bryan J. Doyle, 55, the federal agency's deputy press secretary, was actually talking to an undercover Polk Country Sheriff's Office detective. Investigators said he sent hard-core pornographic movie clips to the "girl" over the internet, used instant messaging to have explicit conversations with her and encouraged her to purchase a web camera so the could exchange graphic photos.

"On many occasions, Doyle instructed the "victim" to perform a sexual act while thinking of him, and described explicit and perverse sexual acts he wished to have with her, in addition to sending her numerous, obscene digital movies, the Sheriff's Office said.

Pay Rent With Sex

SAN FRANCISCO -- In Atlanta, an online ad offers a room in exchange for "sex and light office duty." In Los Angeles, a one-bedroom pool house is free "to a girl that is skilled and willing." And in New York City, a $700-a-month room is available at a discount to a fit female willing to provide sex.

On the widely used Web site, some landlords and apartment dwellers looking for roommates are offering to accept sex in lieu of rent.

"They have to be attractive. I don't let just anybody come into my house," said Mike, a man who answered the phone at the New York City listing but declined to give his last name - and refused to say whether he has, in fact, collected the rent under the sheets.

The offering of shelter for sex is older than, well, real estate itself.

But the online come-ons are franker than anything you might see in the newspaper classifieds, because they are not edited by Craigslist, and perhaps also because the anonymity of the Internet often causes people to shed their inhibitions.

Trading housing for sex is a form of prostitution. But the police aren't kicking down doors.

Paul J. Browne, a deputy police commissioner in New York, said investigators have found that the Craigslist ads are frequently "little more than a form of voyeurism that didn't result in an actual exchange of sex for rent."

Craigslist provides mostly free classifieds for apartments, used cars and just about everything else in more than 200 cities in 35 countries.

"I usually rent the room for 600, but if you are really ticklish and willing to trade being tickled for the extra rent then we have a deal," writes a gay man offering a $350-a-month room in the San Francisco Bay area.

An ad for a townhouse near Bradenton, Fla., seeks a "female that likes to be nude. Nothing more expected."

It is unclear how much success people have had with their rent-for-sex ads.

One man said he became friends with a bisexual man who answered his ad but did not end up taking the room. The same user said a man visiting from Russia answered his ad and they shared dinner and a bottle of wine, but that was it.

"This is only a silly sideline adventure of mine," the man, who would not give his name, wrote in an e-mail. "I feel a little embarrassed about it."

The Associated Press e-mailed more than two-dozen other people who placed ads, but most declined to be interviewed.

Jim Buckmaster, chief executive of San Francisco-based Craigslist, said the company forbids ads that break the law, but his staff of 19 could not possibly police all postings. Craigslist instead relies on users to flag ads they find offensive. If enough people agree, the ad is removed.

"Tens of millions of users are a much more powerful force in examining the more than 8 million classified ads per month than any staff could be," Buckmaster said.

Mike, who offered the room in New York, said his ads are frequently flagged and removed, resulting in a cat-and-mouse game in which he puts them back up.

Tenants rights groups have accused Craigslist of skirting fair housing requirements. In February, a group called the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law sued the Web site for publishing housing ads that excluded people based on their race, religion and sex.

But legal experts say Craigslist is shielded by a 1996 federal law that protects online service providers that merely pass along unedited information provided by someone else.

And in most states, prostitution laws apply only if the ads are followed by e-mails, phone conversations or other acts that advance the proposition.

"The mere posting itself is absolutely not illegal," said Anthony Lowenstein, a defense lawyer in San Francisco, "unless the guy who posts it or the person who answers it does something that makes it a little closer to happening."

Alleged Rapist Turned In By Father

Brisbane, AU -- The father of an alleged rapist phoned police to hand in his son following news reports of a vicious sex attack in an inner city park. The 24-year-old, who cannot be named, appeared in custody in the Brisbane Magistrate's Court yesterday charged with two counts of rape, assault with intent to rape and deprivation of liberty.

His mother and father were also in court, while his father told the court his family would support him if he was released on bail. All the offences were allegedly perpetrated against a 30-year-old woman in the Paddington skate park as he walked home from the Caxton St nightclub precinct. After seeing publicity about the attack, he said the 24-year-old spoke to his father and said: "It's me."

The man who lives at home with his parents, stayed there and gave an interview to police after they arrived. Sgt. Rantala said the man had admitted being with the woman and punching her on the head after she refused to have sex with him. The man was ordered not to have any contact with his alleged victim and surrendered his passport. He will reappear before the court at the end of the month.

Child Rapist Invited To Kindy

Brisbane, Au -- A pedophile and rapist, jailed this month for 15 years, played in a band at a Brisbane kindergarten family day while out on bail. The man, then awaiting trial for sex offences involving his stepdaughter which began when she was 12, even got a certificate of appreciation from the kindy.

He was taken to the fete in September by a Lutheran pastor and his wife, who put up a $20000 surety and provided a place for him to stay to guarantee his release on bail. The certificate was signed by the pastor's wife, how was on the committee of the Centenary Christian Kindergarten and Preschool at Middle Park, on Brisbane's southside.

The man, 41, was jailed for 15 years two weeks ago, after a jury found him guilty of 10 offences including maintaining a sexual relationship with a child under 16, two rape offences, indecent treatment of a child and assault cousing bodily harm. Brisbane District Court Judge Garry Forno said the man used the girls as a"constant source of sexual gratification".

One of the rapes resulted in the stepdaughter, than and adult, becoming pregnant.

A kindergarten spokeswoman said she was unaware the man was facing sex charges at the time.
