Melbourne, AU -- The Commonwealth Games has been hit by a claim of sexual assault at the athletes village. Police are investigating a cleaner's claim a visiting team official assaulted her two days ago while she was trying to clean his room.
The cleaner - a girl of 16 - said he tried to hug, kiss and fondle her, sources said. A special village based police criminal investigation unit has been called in to check allegations - which, if proven, could lead to the expulsion of the official - and even to charges being laid. Police confirmed that the complaint did not involve any athlete, and said the accused had strongly denied any wrongdoing.
Police spokeswoman Carla Coslovich confirmed the teenager's complaint.
